The First Selectman [Chief Elected Official] is a full-time position, serving as the authority to projects and local roadways, serves as the civilian administrator of the Police Department, and is the administrator to all Municipal employees, excluding employees of the Board of Education. The First Selectman works with the 6-member Board of Selectmen to generate and propose an annual operating and capital budget, as well as the implementation of policies.

This office also functions as Human Resources and Social Services. We are responsible for maintaining highly confidential material such as Personnel records and client case files. Other responsibilities of the office include the review, process and issuance of:

  • Bazaar - Raffle Permits
  • License to Purchase Precious Metals and Stones
  • Temporary 60-Day State Pistol Permit
  • Peddlers - Hawkers - Solicitors - Canvassers - Vendor Permits
  • Pin Game Permits for Operators and Distributors
  • Pistol & Revolver Retailer License [CGS Sec. 29-28] (paperwork obtained through SLFU)

    Connect to the “Downloadable Forms” link to view our permit application forms. The submission of an application does not constitute a permit until said application is approved by the applicable authority and all fees are paid in full.

    This office collects the following revenues and/or funds: Bazaar / Raffle Permits; License to Purchase Precious Metals and Stones; Temporary 60-Day State Pistol Permit; Peddlers / Hawkers / Solicitors / Canvassers / Vendor Permits; Land Lease Rental; Tower Lease Rental; Freedom of Information Copies; Pin Game Permits for Operators and Distributors; Pistol & Revolver Retailer License; Miscellaneous reimbursements or fees; Donations (Food Bank, Fuel Bank, Dog Pound).

    Mon., Wed., Thurs. 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
    Tuesday 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
    Friday 8:30 to Noon
