Volunteers Needed and Appreciated!

(None of us is as Smart as All of Us!)
As Main Street Portland goes into action and the Brownstone Quarry Park continues to develop, a great many civic-minded volunteers will be needed to make powerful dreams a reality: planners and policy makers for boards, decision-making committee members, project team members and task oriented action workers. Service opportunities, geared to individual interests and available time, will soon be plentiful, ranging from a full-time commitment of talent and energy to a couple of hours donated for a specific action project.
Call Nan Zimmer (342-2956) or Mike Giuliani (342-0814) if you'd like to get your name into the Data Bank now being developed. Two specific needs are current and need volunteers right now:
1. Organizers willing to join the Main Street Organization Committee, which recruits and trains volunteers (a year long commitment); and
2. Outdoor types willing to help Wesleyan Volunteers mark new riverfront trails on Saturday, August 26, and provide tools and refreshments for a hospitable and companionable day (a day long activity plus some planning hours).

Girl Scout Leader Orientation

Anyone interested in becoming a Girl Scout leader is invited to a leader's orientation meeting August 8 at 7 PM at Trinity Church in Portland. Registration for Girl Scouts begins in September and leaders are needed to form troops at that time.
For more information or to sign-up for the orientation, please call Alicia Currier at 342-0158.

Girl Scout Sign-up

Girls, grades K-12, interested in joining the Girl Scouts, can sign-up on September 14, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the Portland Senior Center. Current Girl Scout leaders will be available to answer any questions concerning Girl Scouts. Adults interested in leading or assisting with a troop are welcome to come as well to find out how they can become leaders.
There is a $7.00 registration fee payable when the girl is placed in a troop. Financial assistance is available through Girl Scouts.
Besides their regular troop meetings, Portland Girl Scouts participate in many town-wide activities throughout the year, including the Yule Log Hunt in the fall, Girl Scout Sunday in the spring, and their annual Camporee.
For more information, call Brenda Rossignol at 342-4791.
