Fire Department

A vehicle with flashing blue lights is a firefighter or EMS technician responding to an emergency. Please pull to the side of the road quickly and safely and allow the vehicle to pass. Remember, we could be responding to someone you love. Thanks for your cooperation.

Message from the Chief

As Fire Chief of the Portland Fire Department, I bring more than 15 years of dedicated fire service experience and over 13 years as a certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Throughout my career, I have remained committed to providing high-quality emergency services while ensuring the safety and well-being of the community I serve.

As a lifelong resident of Portland, my commitment to this community is both professional and personal. I live in town with my family and also serve the community through my work in the Town’s Public Works Department.

I progressed through the ranks of the Portland Fire Department, serving as Lieutenant and Captain before spending four years as Deputy Chief. In total, I have served as a line officer for more than 11 years. These leadership roles provided me with extensive experience in emergency operations, personnel supervision, training, and administrative management, ultimately preparing me for my current role as Fire Chief.

In addition to my command responsibilities, I previously served as the department’s Marine Coordinator and have been an active member of the dive team for nine years, supporting specialized marine rescue and recovery operations. This role required advanced technical training, strong interagency coordination, and a continued focus on operational readiness.

I have served as a certified EMT for more than 13 years, bringing valuable medical expertise to emergency incidents. My combined experience in fire suppression, rescue operations, marine response, and emergency medical services provides a comprehensive and well-rounded approach to public safety.

As Fire Chief, I am dedicated to strengthening departmental training, enhancing operational capabilities, and fostering a culture of professionalism, safety, and service to best meet the needs of the Portland community.

Sincerely,
Chief Rob Puida
